Message from the President December.2022
What we can do for our customers and society
We are fast approaching the end of 2022, and I wonder what kind of year 2022 was for our employees.
In Japan, we finally began to change direction toward With Corona in September, with the simultaneous pursuit of preventing the spread of infection and maintaining and revitalizing socioeconomic activities." However, the number of COVID-19 cases is currently still on the rise, and the uncertain business environment and constrained living environment remain the same. It is a busy December to end the year. While taking good care of our health, let's use the limited time remaining well, by thinking and acting in a planned manner, so that we can start the New Year with a renewed spirit.
Our internal newsletter SYORYU, to be published in January 2023, will feature the theme of "What we can do for our customers and society - our existential value." It explores how we have been able to change and evolve and our contribution to improving customer satisfaction and realizing a sustainable society beyond that from a variety of internal and external perspectives through the three years in our "Meitec Group Mid-Term Management Plan (2020-2022): The Transformation." As it introduces a questionnaire that received responses from more than 1,000 engineers, interviews with five engineers, and messages from customers and experts, I would like all employees to use them as an opportunity to think about the value of their own existence.
I was particularly impressed with some of the contents of the special feature this time. It was a message we received from an expert, who said, "Like a compass gradually drawing a large circle, you can broaden the scope of your skills by taking in a variety of experiences while keeping your foot on the axis." I felt that it nicely represented the work styles and career paths of our engineers. In my Message from the President, I had stated that "I see them (our engineers) as a 'trunk' that grows thicker and larger as more and more foliage of knowledge and skills sprout from the core that is technology. As such, the final shape of the 'tree' depends entirely on what technology is available, what can be learnt, and how it is nurtured." (June 2016) The metaphor may differ, but the essence of the message is the same.
We are already approaching the final corner of the current Mid-Term Management Plan. Until we cut the tape at the finish line, I would like to work with you to think and act honestly about what we can do for our customers and society, and use this as a springboard to move on to the next stage.
