On July 17, 2014, Meitec will celebrate its 40th anniversary.
During those 40 years, environments surrounding us had greatly changed. Along with the changing times, such as the motorization, globalization, information society, our manufacturing industry in Japan has been addressing the development of new products and new services.
Meitec exist now because our engineers had responded to such changes by challenging diverse and sophistication of technologies, and continued to provide needed technologies and fulfilling their expected roles.
Every June, the Company holds honoring ceremony for employees who have worked with us for over 20 years. Today, I would like to share some of our histories and transitions occurred in the company over 20 years ago, which I spoke at the ceremony.
40 years ago, in 1974, the company was established by seven engineers as “Nagoya Technical Center Co.”
35 years ago, in 1979, first issue of our in-house magazine “SYORYU” released. Number of employee had increased to 529, and an annual sale was 1.5 billion yen.
30 years ago, in 1984, the company had changed its name to Meitec Corporation. Number of employee had rapidly grown to 2,032, a 3.9 times, and an annual sale increased to 11.1 billion yen, 7.4 times.
25 years ago, in 1989, the company celebrated its 15th anniversary by holding an anniversary events “Meitec Festival 1015” in Nagoya with 3,200 employees and their family attending. In five years, number of employee had increased to 4,412, a 2.2 times, and an annual sale increased to 27.5 billion yen, 4.9 times.
As we look at the growth in number of employee and sales at that time, both are rapidly growing. But especially the growth of the sales was significant. This is a proof that, as a result of each and every engineer had pursued and provided technological strengths competitive to that of client’s employee, trust and evaluation from our clients had increased.
20 years ago, in 1994, the company had overcome the crisis caused by the collapse of bubble economy from 1991 to 1993 period. Number of employee was 3.433, losing more than 2,000 fellow employees from our peak, and an annual sale was 32.8 billion yen.
To this day from then, we went on the road of revival again. We must not forget the most painful and sad moment caused by the collapse of the bubble economy. And I bear in mind that we must not let it repeated again.
And when we faced this crisis, with strong trusted relationships between our clients and remaining employees, and by everyone’s efforts with the spirit of the “independence and mutual supports”, we were able to overcome this crisis. And once again, we had overcome the unprecedented crisis following the Lehman Shock which occurred five years ago by the same way.
Therefore, reason that we can celebrate our 40th anniversary now is greatly owing to the contributions and achievements of every employee that was built up with everyday efforts.
Let us continue to brush up our technologies and grow, so that we can continue to create new value and products to the world toward future.
“MAKE NEXT”
