Message from the President November.2022
A value chain as a result of combinations
CEATEC 2022 was recently held. It was the first time in three years that an in-person (not virtual) CEATEC, one of Japan's largest IoT trade shows, had been held. CEATEC 2022 was held in Makuhari Messe from October 18 to 21. An online conference was also held, making CEATEC 2022 the first hybrid CEATEC trade show. CEATEC 2022's purpose was, "Facilitating the realization of Society 5.0, designed to further economic development and the solution of social problems, people, technology, and information from all industries and sectors will gather to envision the future through co-creation." A total of 562 companies and other organizations that support this purpose set up booths.
At CEATEC 2022, I focused attention on the idea of the creation of a value chain that would help create a sustainable society. Combinations of technological elements may result in new products and services, which may in turn help people across the world live better and contribute to the creation of a sustainable society. Combinations are very important. It would be difficult to create Society 5.0 without combinations of hardware technologies and software technologies.
For example, delivering packages to sparsely-populated areas using drones is made possible by a combination of hardware technologies for the bodies of drones, batteries and materials, and software technologies, such as autonomous flight and remote operation technologies. The metaverse, where users straddle the virtual and real worlds, requires a combination of software technologies, including cross reality (XR) technology, AI, and blockchain, and hardware technologies, such as technologies for displays and cameras that are necessary for XR devices and semiconductors for processing data.
Companies in different industries and sectors combine technologies in areas where they are strong and develop new products and services and create a value chain to solve social issues. We need to contribute to creating a sustainable society through co-creation with these companies.
I would like engineers to provide new value to customers in the manufacturing industry and society by combining the extensive technical expertise that they have developed and the next-generation technologies that they will learn. We will continue to provide opportunities and placement that will enable you engineers to leverage your knowledge and fully demonstrate your technological capabilities, displaying the value of Meitec to society.
