Message from the President May.2024

Contributing to solving social issues

To realize a sustainable society, members of the United Nations unanimously adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, and all enterprises and individuals are working toward achieving the 17 goals and 169 targets by 2030.

The goal of the related green transformation (GX) is to balance the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and economic growth, one of the cross-cutting themes toward the achievement of the SDGs, and initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero are a measure to achieve carbon neutrality. Despite being a resource-limited country with a low energy supply rate, Japan’s per capita energy consumption is one of the highest in the world. Accordingly, Japan must play a central role in the achievement of carbon neutrality.

Many companies have already embarked on new challenges with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality based on a stable supply of energy by building connections beyond the boundaries between industries, pursuing efficiency and safety, developing next generation energy technology, and other efforts. To create an affluent future society, the companies also use, combine, blend and promote specialized technologies and strive to build a supply chain where energy is created, kept, transported and used.

The evolution of AI will likely increase the convenience of our everyday lives, but it will require an enormous amount of electricity and will give rise to the new problem of a more unstable energy supply. Only professional engineering groups such as the MEITEC Group face these diverse social issues squarely, solve them together with clients and contribute to society.
